Glenn Heppler

Chairman of Systems Design Engineering, University of Waterloo

Dr. Heppler received his B.A.Sc. (1977), M.A.Sc. (1979), and Ph.D. 1985) from the Institute for Aerospace Studies at the University of Toronto. His Ph.D. was in the area of finite element analysis of the behavior of nonlinear dynamic structures.

Professor Heppler has been at the University of Waterloo since 1986, has held the rank of Professor since 1996 and hs been the Chairman of the Department of Systems Design Engineering since September of 2004. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics. He teaches courses in dynamics, mechanics of materials, control theory and finite element methods. Currently Dr. Heppler's research interests center around the dynamics and control of unrestrained or semi-rained
flexible structures such as robots.
