Speaker EventsCUTC 2005 invites delegates to interact with top notch speakers from industry and academia in our technology seminar streams. This year's topics are:
- Keynotes KeynoteCome hear world class views on important technology issues.
Canadian InnovationCanada is considered one of the most innovative countries in the world. With nearly 20% of its population using the Internet and around 1/10th of the world’s patents, Canada is quickly becoming a nation of innovation. In this stream we will identify Canada’s technological strengths and weaknesses while learning how leading Canadian technologists are addressing them. Come hear and see the people driving Canada’s technological future.
A World for our TechnologyWe see the benefits of technology in our everyday life. We see improvements in the workplace, our home, entertainment and social lives; however, do we see the greater impact of technology? This stream will focus on that greater impact. Topics include but are not limited to: repercussions of using email as our main form of communication in the workplace; and how Nanotechnology will affect our world in the next 10 years.
MarketSpaceFor many years, the largest companies in the world believed that technology and their IT departments were Cost-Centers. In 2005, many of the largest companies are high-tech companies proving that without technology, business functions cannot survive. Technology and innovation are now seen as enablers of better business rather than cost-centers. This stream will focus on the fine balance between technology and business within the market space. Topics include but are not limited to: Customer Relationship Management and the role of consultants (expensive common sense or a valuable asset)
Building a New FutureIn the world of building, design and construction, epidemics are hard to start, and even harder to reach critical mass. Conventional wisdom contends that the construction industry is not receptive to change, because innovation is too fraught with risk and unpredictability. However, in today’s society evidence of a change can be found in advances in materials science, increased private and public alliances, and the infiltration of digital technology into everything. These changes have conspired to create pockets of experimentation and unusual collaborations among architects, engineers, and manufacturers.
New FrontiersAre you constantly probing for cutting edge technology? Do you consider yourself an early-adopter or do you feel you are even more aware than early-adopters? Then this is the stream for you it identifies, explores and discusses upcoming trends in technology that will change our way of life. Join us on our discovery of the latest and greatest. Topics will include but are not limited to: Longhorn (As good as Windows Me or As good as it gets) and Self-healing software (are those little men inside your hard drive that fix your software when it crashes?)
