What's happening at CUTC

At CUTC, we create an atmosphere of interaction and dialogue wherever possible. Our organizers have created events that separate us from the average conference. These events are designed to both broaden the reach of the conference and to create more direct connections between our speakers and delegates. These events, combined with the keynote speeches and our seminars, are what define the CUTC experience.

Speaker Events

Every year, CUTC invites speakers from industry and academia to share their views on technology. Hear what some of the biggest names in technology have to say in the keynote sessions. Interact with top notch speakers from industry and academia in our different seminar streams: Canadian Innovation, A World for our Technology, MarketSpace, Building a New Future, New Frontiers

TechExpo

TechExpo is an event that showcases a diverse portfolio of technology, and offers delegates a high level of interaction with vendors, academic researchers, and undergraduates alike. Engaging personalities, special events, and an exhibit floor with cutting edge technology solutions for both today and tomorrow are all part of the TechExpo experience. TechExpo aims towards a delegate-centric philosophy and continues to expand its scale and influence by introducing new formats and encouraging participation. For companies, TechExpo offers the opportunity to talk one on one with a younger market on a more personal level. TechExpo encompasses a wide variety of technological solutions, and shows not only what is attainable for the present, but what the future is capable of. In essence, TechExpo offers our delegates our sneak peek at the newest wave of technology, and gives our exhibitors the chance to demo their products to a prime demographic. TechExpo is all about bringing the future one step closer.

TechPanel

At TechPanel, we choose controversial topics and invite experts from both industry and academic institutions to discuss them. The setting is perfect for debate, dialogue, and hearing new ideas from experts. After the panelists discuss the topic, we open the floor to delegates for questions. At CUTC 2004, we held two TechPanels: the first focused on Globalization while the second discussed Bioethics and the justification of controversial research techniques.

TechShops

CUTC is focused on encouraging our delegates to learn and experience new things. TechShop further endorses that concept through interactive workshops where delegates can learn new skills that incorporate interesting technology. It is a chance to participate in hands-on activities and learn about some of the key technologies and logical techniques that are used everyday in successful companies. TechShop enables the delegates to learn from experts in their field, and can offer tips on how to apply general knowledge and skills. The main purpose of the event is to give the delegates the opportunity to walk away from CUTC with a brand new skill. Essentially, we give our delegates a crash course in a topic, taught by industry leaders who utilize these skills for a living. There’s no better way for our delegates to learn than by the hands-on interaction that occurs in our TechShop events.

TechShow

TechShow is a brand new event for CUTC 2005. This major conference event is modeled after a late night talk show which, like keynotes, all delegates will be attending. It provides delegates with a chance to relax while enjoying a different perspective on technology. The TechShow will involve one-on-one interviews with select industry leaders. Topics of discussion will revolve around business, the latest technology discoveries, and the future of technology in society. TechShow guests will have a great opportunity to share their experiences, thoughts, and advice with the conference’s delegates in a comfortable and more relaxed setting. There will also be entertaining breaks between interviews where our host will look at technology from a comedic angle. TechShow’s aim is to increase the interaction between speakers and delegates, as well as provide a chance for everyone to learn and laugh together.

ThinkTank

ThinkTank is an event that allows leaders from industry and academic institutions to come together with delegates to discuss important economical, environmental and societal issues. This event is an opportunity for delegates and leaders to brainstorm and discuss ideas, opinions and criticisms that deal with certain contemporary issues pertaining to technology. The focus is on initiating discussion, producing potential solutions to pressing problems, and allowing our delegates to make new connections. ThinkTank is as much about the experience of expression as it is the ideas that come out of it. By encouraging our delegates to think laterally about real world situations, we foster in them skills that will aid them in future endeavors.

Imagine Cup

CUTC is proud to host the Canadian kick-off of Microsoft’s Imagine Cup 2005 Competition. To get you excited about Imagine Cup, CUTC has arranged five fun and interactive competitions that will run all day Friday. Each seminar is linked to an Imagine Cup category: Visual Gaming, Office Designer, Technology Business Plan, Information Technology, and Short Film. Extraordinary prizes are awarded at every competition and the top performers in each category will receive an invitation to the real Imagine Cup competition!
