The Midnight Sun Solar Car

The University of Waterloo's Midnight Sun Solar Race Car Team is powered by innovation, leading-edge technology, and teamwork amongst students from every faculty on the Waterloo campus. Fueled only by sunshine, the sleek Midnight Sun VII cruises at 95km/hr and reaches a
top speed of 130km/hr. Midnight Sun VII currently holds the world-record for the longest distance driven by a solar car, set on a 15,000km journey in 2004, and was also the top Canadian team in the 2003 American Solar Challenge. Outside of races, the Midnight Sun team is driven by the goal of educating the public on the potential of renewable energy. Midnight Sun actively participates in public events, conferences, and educational workshops for elementary and high
school students.

National Research Council

Meet researchers from the National Research Council Canada (NRC) who will be demonstrating the latest "Nouse" technology, a suite of perceptual vision tools that provide hands-free control for computer users as well as the state of the art equipment for the early assessment of burn wounds using Optical Spectroscopy, which will help improve patient care. NRC designers and fabricators will also be on-site with original prototypes of the Aurora aircraft model and a NASCAR model for wind tunnel testing and more.

Robotics Club

The Robotics Club is a newly founded University of Toronto club. The purpose of the club is to design and build robots for different types of competition with an emphasis on group learning. The Robotics Club booth will consists of fun sumo and painter bots as well as club tutorial projects. Come on over to see how to build your own bot!

TechArt

Teams of interdisciplinary students (mostly engineering and fine art specialists) created these interactive works of art. All of the pieces are interactive, resulting in a compelling and novel experience for gallery visitors.

Three pieces that will be shown include “The Box”, “It”, and “One of Seven”. Each of these pieces is unique and interactive, come see the melding of art and technology!

UW Alternative Fuels Team (UWAFT)

From propane to ethanol to hydrogen, the University of Waterloo is working on driving the future. Come learn about the benefits and challenges of alternative fuels with a focus on hydrogen. Check out the pieces of a operational fuel cell, fuel cell powered minature cars, and automotive design software in action.
